Youri Mijn Ervaring (1)
Project Engineer

Read the experience of Youri

Youri is a Project Engineer. He is the link between the customer and the workshop. He prepares an plans the work for various projects and has been working at Elektro Internationaal since 2016.

What is your background / what education have you completed?

I pursued the Technician Engineering Electrical Engineering level 4 program at the ROC in Nieuwegein. During this program, I learned how to design, install, and maintain electrical systems. I also gained knowledge about control technology, switch cabinets, and PLCs. The combination of theory and practice gave me a good insight into the field. But I really started learning when I began my internship.

I did two internships at Elektro Internationaal. During my first internship, I worked in the workshop as a technician, where I was involved in assembling and wiring distribution systems such as Prisma G, Prisma P, and Okken. This gave me a good understanding of how technical drawings are applied in practice and the importance of working accurately.

My second internship at Elektro Internationaal was my graduation internship, which I did in the office as a calculator/planner for the Utility project team. I made calculations, prepared projects, and assisted the execution team. This gave me a good view of what goes on behind the scenes and taught me planning, communication, and collaboration.

What do you do at EI and how do you like it?

After my two internships at Elektro Internationaal, I stayed on in 2016 as a planner. I am the link between what the client wants and what our workshop needs to execute. My tasks mainly involve planning and preparing distribution cabinets for utility construction projects. I ensure that everything is well-organized before the technicians start working, such as ordering materials and developing the multiline schematic packages.

I like it a lot. It's nice to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that projects are completed successfully. Additionally, I learn new things every day, which makes the work interesting and challenging for me. It's also great to see how my work ultimately reflects in the final result.

What do you think of the working hours and the atmosphere?

At Elektro Internationaal, there is a pleasant, friendly atmosphere. We are truly a close-knit team where everyone helps each other and works together. It's easy to share ideas and ask questions, and there's always room for a joke. This makes it simply enjoyable to work here. What I also really appreciate are the flexible working hours. You can arrange your working hours between 7:00 and 18:00, allowing you to balance work well with your private life.

How do you see the future within EI?

I am currently very comfortable in my position as a planner at Elektro Internationaal. I learn every day and am getting better at what I do in electrical engineering. In the future, I would like to grow into a senior project engineer or project manager.
